In 1989 David Engel discovered treasure.
He created the bumbling buccaneer character Billy Bones: The (Generally) Good Pirate and found youngsters of all types were fully engaged by this winning theme. They all wanted to be “good” pirates.
Why?
Because kids already are pirates! The pirate theme is universal and enduring because it taps into children’s emotional makeup in several elemental ways. Like pirates, kids naturally yearn for adventure, independence and self-actualization; They love discovery, carousing and challenging authority.
The pirate theme easily crosses cultural, economic and geographic boundaries. It’s captivating to children’s imaginations and, when presented in a nurturing, non-violent environment; it’s embraced by parents.
David now performs Pirate School for thousands of curious corsairs at schools, libraries, festivals and family events across the Tri-State area.
Welcome aboard, mates.
